Can I polish metal with my Fiber Laser?

In technical terms, there isn’t actually a way to “polish” with a laser.

Since you’d be evenly ablating across the surface, you’d also be evenly removing material from the whole surface without changes of surface height in mind (like you could with wet sanding for example, where the sanding media wouldn’t touch the low spots). You can change the texture of the surface so that it helps to hide those inconsistencies though, so just depends artistically what you’re looking to do.

One way to approach it, we will sometimes like to do a semi high frequency cleaning pass, low power will help prevent excessive ablation as a whole. With the goal being consistency across the surface, it just helps to keep a consistent look and remove the yuck from the surface to appear more even and reflect light in the same way.
