Hi folks… Mark from Houston. Just looking to get started in Laser Engraving.
I want to spend $500-1000 for a laser… want to work in wood, metals…. I want to make some custom coins to give to employees. And learn and expand from there….
I had researched and selected an xTool D1 Pro 10W, a honeycomb/stainless panel and an enclosure ($964 on Amazon) but the review here was fairly mixed. The other reviews posted don’t have scores like this one and all aren’t in my price range. Now, I’m confused as to what to buy. I want something “commonly used” and “good” so that I can find help when I need it and have a quality product.
In advance…. thanks for the help.
I have four X-TOOL D1 PRO machines, two with the 20 watt heads and two with the new 40 watt heads. Or at least I WILL have them, when I assemble them! I have assembled ONE machine thus far, and I love it. I have been experimenting with things. One thing that is dirt simple to cut is the neoprene foam mats. They are sold as “anti-fatigue mats” at Harbor Freight, and they also are sold in many other places, and in many different colors. Cut this stuff OUTSIDE so you do not drop dead from the fumes!
I bought some black anodized aluminum license plates from Amazon, and a whole slew of materials for experimentation. I am just waiting for the temps to rise a bit in my shop. It is COLD out there right now. Here are some early tests on different materials with a 20 Watt blue diode laser.

Why did they wait until I became 60 to introduce LASERS??!
